After an amazing thunder and lightning storm in Mesculine we arose to sheeting rain and strong wind. Our picturesque lake was no longe calm and the bags in place to stop flooding subsequently failed. Fortunately for us we left early in the morning and after negotiating flooded and closed roads and turning around several times, finally drove out of the storm. From news reports it would appear we were lucky and could have been stranded...
We have carried on driving westwards and after 2 days are closer to rolling hills. The countryside is drier and suitable for other crops such as peanuts. Corn here is for silage rather than export, as the river is now 800 km away, and we have visited feedlots to see cattle raised largely on suppliments. In Villa Mercedes we are staying near a small square. These usual feature a church or cathedral and a statue like this.
Last of the Autumn colours at a polo club but unfortunately we missed the game.
Before and after the floor shots.
Out into the sunshine at last. a visit to a bio diesel plant and also a bio electric plant. We couldn't visit farms post flood as the roads in were not negotiable by bus and some farms were still recovering from last months flood. This was just a top up. Poor things.
Lovely feed lot faces. Thought we were going to feed them. Feedlots extended as far as the eye could see..
Here's another! And how about this pile of sorghum silage? The yield is 45 tonnes to the hectare and makes a massive pile which will be fed out over the next 2 months mixed with brewers corn and maize silage.
That's some bad hat Harry! 😉
